Youth Art Competition: Talented Local Students

"My Favorite Place" was the theme for the 2010 ArtiGras Youth Art competition. Area art teachers presented more than 400 works of art from 70 schools. Student art were judged by grade level with each grade having a first, second and third place winner along with three honorable mentions. First place winners in the competition will receive a $100 savings bond and the second and third place winners received money for their schools art program. Each year more than $3,000 is donated to local school art programs through the Youth Art competition. Finalists for the youth art competition have their work displayed all three days of ArtiGras with an awards ceremony taking place on Saturday, and throughout the community during the following year.

ArtiKids Festival Activities: Young Artists at Work

The ArtiKids area offers children a wide variety of interactive art activities to help each child “find the artist within.” Kids of all ages can take part in “finding the artist within” - they can make clay creations with the help of Lighthouse Center for the Arts, assembled cool newspaper hats compliments of Resource Depot and enjoyed hours of fun playing in the giant Sand Pile while their parents took some time to relax! Here are a few samples of annual favorite activities:

ArtWall
Pick a square, any square. The Gardens Mall ArtWall is a giant white wall where kids can pick a square and draw or paint anything they want.

Resource Depot Imagination
Using ordinary items donated by local offices, kids can create whatever their minds can envision. Resource Depot is a local non-profit organization which collects donated items from businesses and organizations in the county and redistributes them to childcare givers (teachers, parents, etc.) in the county for educational and art project.

Tiny Treasures: Children's Art Boutique

This kids-only area features one-of-a kind art donated by the festival artists. Children ages three to thirteen may make their own selection from low-priced items and afterward meet the artist who created the piece.

All art is priced $5-$25 and will allow your little one the experience of buying a piece of art that they alone pick out: a piece that they love. They will pay for the piece and meet you - the parents - at the exit of the Tiny Treasures area. They will have a card with the artist name and booth number so you can visit that artist and see their work. All proceeds from art sales go towards the Quantum House.
